In May 2025, India’s alternative fuel vehicle landscape showed steady progress across most segments. The electric three-wheeler (3W) segment maintained strong momentum with a 56.5% share, slightly down from April but higher than May 2024, reflecting continued urban adoption. Passenger vehicles (PV) saw a mild rise in alternative fuel penetration to 5.7%, up from 4.2% a year ago, driven by growing acceptance of hybrids and CNG models. The two-wheeler (2W) segment recorded a 6.1% EV share—higher than May 2024 but lower than April’s spike—indicating a normalisation after recent highs. In commercial vehicles (CV), alternative fuel share stood at 8.9%, showing improvement over last year and reflecting early fleet-level transitions. The tractor segment inched up to 2.7%, though diesel remains the primary fuel source. Overall, alternative fuel adoption is expanding steadily in 3Ws, PVs, and CVs, with 2W growth stabilising and tractors still in early stages of shift.
